Al Takes A Bride - Set Designer (2024)
As one of two students selected to design for Smith's theater department's fall studio productions, I developed a minimalist, presentational design that highlighted the complex relationships between characters. Working closely with the lighting team, I created detailed sketches and color palettes, drafting plans by hand.
The centerpiece of the design was a 14’ Norway Maple provided by the Smith Botanic Gardens. To transform winter foliage into a convincing Memphis summer setting, I painted over 100 fake leaves cut into the shape of Southern Magnolia leaves and collaborated with the scene shop to integrate them into the living tree structure.
Spring Productions - Props Carpenter (2024)
As Props Carpenter for academic credit, I gained comprehensive fabrication experience across three main productions. Under the guidance of the technical director, I learned various power tools and fabrication techniques, such as specialized saw work and introductory welding.
STC’s Clue On Stage - Set Designer (2023)
My first role as lead set designer came through a student organization production, where I collaborated with a co-designer to create an immersive environment. The project involved constructing rolling flats and engineering specialized mechanisms for a secret door and hidden safe. I took primary responsibility for scenic painting, particularly the creation of detailed bookshelf treatments and wood finishes.
